Recently, the Second Institute of China Nuclear Power Research and Design Institute and the School of Physics of Sichuan University jointly held the signing ceremony of the "Joint Laboratory of Nuclear Reactor Safety Fundamental Technology".Zhou Dingwen, member of the Party Committee and consultant of the Institute of Nuclear Power, and Chu Liangyin, vice president of Sichuan University inaugurated the joint laboratory.

 

As the implementation of the nuclear power after school signed a strategic cooperation agreement with sichuan university, one of the important measures for the joint laboratory will closely around the state nuclear power technology development direction, advanced nuclear energy system based on the thermal-hydraulic, serious accident, structural mechanics, nuclear physics, nuclear instrument in the fields of frontier and exploratory and innovative basic research and applied basic research, the key basic technology of nuclear power engineering problems.To attract, stabilize and cultivate a high level of scientific and technological personnel team, strengthen domestic and foreign scientific and technological cooperation and exchange to provide a research platform.

 

Ding-wen zhou said, to build joint laboratory is an effective mode of bilateral strategic cooperation agreement implementation, will in future for laboratory platform, to build nuclear power communication bridge between hospital and sichuan, expand the scope and content of cooperation, to speed up the nuclear program production, fall to the ground, build first-class professional basic research platform, to promote the development of the country and the nuclear industry in sichuan province.

 

Chu Liangyin said that the establishment of the joint laboratory is the in-depth promotion of the strategic agreement between Sichuan University and the Institute of Nuclear Power. The laboratory should be guided by the national development strategy of nuclear energy science and technology, integrate the high-quality resources of both sides, accelerate the breakthrough of major projects, deepen the joint training of graduate students, and boost the university-enterprise scientific research cooperation and talent training to a new level.

 

Pure polyethylene is a hard, translucent white waxy material, softening temperature 115°C, easy to process into the desired shape.The density is 0.92g/cm3, the number of hydrogen atoms per unit volume is 7.8 ~ 8.0×1022 /cm3, the hydrogen content is more than water, the moderating neutron capacity is stronger than water, is a very effective neutron shielding material.In order to reduce the intensity of secondary gamma radiation emitted by carbon and hydrogen in polyethylene after trapping thermal neutrons, boron treatment is needed.Usually 325 mesh boron anhydride (B2O3) powder is added, but because of its water absorption, the film can form a foamy vapor, has been replaced by boron carbide (B4C).Polyethylene containing 8%(by weight) natural B4C reduces the intensity of captured gamma rays by 100 times.Boron - containing polyethylene should be colored to distinguish boron - free polyethylene.Because of its low softening temperature, it is not suitable to be used as neutron shielding material in the hot part of reactor.
